Corps Security Awarded SIA Approved Contractor Status

The Corps is pleased to announce that they are now a Security Industry Authority Approved Contractor.

The news was announced prior to the 20th March licensing deadline. The Corps was one of the first companies to have been approved after consistently reaching licensing targets set by the SIA.

The new licensing laws were introduced as part of The Private Security Industry Act 2001 which was designed to regulate the industry and required the SIA to establish a system of licensing for Private Security Contractors. A series of deadlines were set requiring Security Companies to have an increasing percentage of their operational staff SIA licensed as 20th March drew nearer.

In addition to these licensing requirements the SIA set up an Approved Contractor Scheme to reward those companies who were able to conform to the stringent licensing regulation. Only the small number of companies who were able to achieve these targets have been awarded Approved Contractor status.

The Corps is extremely pleased to have met all the requirements stipulated by the SIA and are proud to be named as one of the first members of the SIA Approved Contractor Scheme. Within the rules of the scheme, The Corps is therefore able to supply licensed security personnel to all our clients. Companies or security officers working without a licence or licence dispensation notice (issued by SIA pending receipt of licence) will be committing a criminal offence.

The new licensing laws apply in England and Wales. In Southern Ireland, it is the company rather than the individual that is licensed. In Scotland, the process will commence later this year with a scheduled date for licence enforcement of November 2007.
