Veterans Association

Supporting our veterans staying true to our roots and social mission.

Created to provide employment to ex-service men and women, Corps has a natural affinity with the forces, an association we proudly maintain to this day and one we are hugely passionate about.

As a social enterprise, supporting veterans and helping them into civilian life is a fundamental responsibility of our business.

We never forget where we started

We are an Armed Forces Covenant Employer Recognition Scheme Gold accredited business.

This means that we have signed and advocate the benefits of the Armed Forces Covenant in addition to employing and supporting those who serve, veterans and their families through supportive HR policies and paid leave for reservists.

We have never forgotten our initial social mission and strive to keep our history very much alive. We maintain a Corps of Commissionaires burial plot at Brookwood Cemetery, established as a resting place for commissionaires and their families in 1859. We also maintain a comprehensive archive with records dating from 1859 to the present day, including hard copy logbooks.

Engaging with the forces community

We constantly evaluate ways to engage with the forces community and make a positive contribution. The world of security shares many similarities with the services, which many veterans find comforting and reassuring.

Veterans are guaranteed an interview with Corps for any available vacancy, and our work with Combat Stress means we make a tangible difference to rehabilitation. In fact, we have developed a special scheme to directly benefit the charity, which sees a donation included in our quote based on a percentage of annual revenue.

WHAT OUR VETERANS SAY

‘‘To work for a company like Corps, with its heritage makes me feel part of the cause and the history itself. It’s the small things like ensuring any veteran who applies for a role that make us who we are. I take pride in meeting other ex-service personnel and helping them however I can.’’

‘‘As an ex-serviceman working for Corps allows me to be a part of something much bigger than just a job. It allows me to make a difference, to actively contribute to the something I feel so passionately about – heling other veterans into rewarding careers post service.’’

‘‘Corps certainly invest in their people, and I am an example of that. When I joined, I was a Relief Officer having been out of the forces about a year.  With Corps faith in me and hard work I progressed from Site Security Manager to Area Supervisor to Contract Manager and now Commercial Manager. I will always be grateful to Corps for helping me grow.’’

A safe space online for veterans to meet and talk

We have created the Corps Veterans Association as a safe space for the many ex-forces men and women across our business to unite, share experiences and help one another navigate life after service.

With its own Facebook community page, Corps Veterans Association provides a forum for our forces colleagues to talk, share experiences, help one another, and organise fundraising activities and charity events.

Valuing every single member of the Armed Forces

‘‘Corps was founded to provide employment for ex-servicemen returning from the Crimean War so the roots of our company are firmly ingrained in the military sector. We value every single member of the Armed Forces community employed at Corps. They bring a fantastic skill set and their contribution to Corps is invaluable. We are so proud to receive this very prestigious Gold Employer Recognition Scheme award. It doesn’t end there though. The military sector is so important to us and we’ll work harder to recruit and support those that have served our country as well as developing our client base in the military sector.’’

Giving back where it’s most needed

Our veteran’s association also exists to keep the Corps bond with the UK armed forces alive and real, bringing experiences to life and helping us with remembrance efforts. It also assists us as a business with much needed fundraising initiatives, enabling us to give back where it is most needed.

If you are a Corps employee you can access the Corps Veterans Association page here and apply to our administration team to join the group. We’d be delighted to see you there.

Tracing Commissionaires

We are immensely proud of our 163 year history and hold extensive archives for safe-keeping at the London Metropolitan Archives.

The full catalogue can now be searched via this link.

With the growing interest in genealogy, we often receive enquiries about former Commissionaires (1859-1975). We are more than happy to help by providing any information available to us, subject to data protection restrictions. If you would like us to search for an ancestor or friend, please submit your request to: Archives@corpssecurity.co.uk
