In this edition of our “5 Minutes With” series, we shine a spotlight on Glen Taylor, Corps Security’s dynamic head of business & central support. From overseeing essential operations to ensuring the well-being of site-based colleagues, Glen’s journey is a testament to dedication and growth. Let’s dive in.
What does your role entail?
As head of business & central support, I lead two pivotal teams. The central support team handles planning and resource management for our site-based colleagues’ shifts, while ensuring the safety of our lone workers who work around the clock. Meanwhile, the business support team oversees our colleague onboarding, with a focus on compliance through rigorous Right to Work checks and adherence to BS7858 standards.
What roles have you worked in prior to joining Corps Security?
After leaving school, I served with the 1st Battalion Scots Guards. I then transitioned to civilian life, working in the security sector as a security officer and mobile support officer.
Tell us about your journey within the company.
It’s been an incredible journey! I started as a scheduler in 2009, moved up to duty manager in 2012, became a contract manager in 2014, and then regional manager north in 2021. After spending my time in various roles, it was a pleasure to start leading the central and business support teams in 2023.
What steps has your development taken with Corps?
Becoming a contract manager was a transformative experience for me. The role taught me so much because it was fast-paced and constantly evolving. I’m grateful for the guidance I received from mentors like scheduling manager Margaret Dalziel and regional operations director Darrell Jacques, who played a significant part in my development across all my roles at Corps.
What’s been your biggest highlight/moment in your role?
Attending the Queen’s Garden Party in 2018 stands out as a career highlight. It was particularly an honour because, during my time with the 1st Battalion Scots Guards, I had participated in these events as a guardsman providing security. Returning as a guest was a full-circle moment.
What do you love most about working at Corps?
It’s the people! Working at Corps feels like being part of one big team. Everyone plays a role, and we’re united by a shared purpose. I also love that our profits go toward charitable causes—it’s inspiring to work for a company with such a meaningful mission.
What are the key ingredients to finding happiness at work?
Teamwork is at the heart of workplace happiness. Delivering excellent service, and working alongside supportive colleagues, brings me joy.
What helps you create a good work/life balance?
Trusting my teams makes all the difference. When I’m off, I know they’ll continue delivering a professional and supportive service, so I can truly relax. Outside of work, I keep busy with various interests that recharge me.
A big thank you to Glen and the entire Corps Security team for their unwavering dedication. Stay tuned for more inspiring stories in our “5 Minutes With” series—celebrating the people who make Corps Security a leader in the industry.
