Corps Innovation Day 2026: Value Isn’t What You Know, It’s What You Share

Earlier this month, we welcomed security experts and industry leaders from across the UK to Corps Security’s 2026 Innovation Day at The National Archives in Richmond, Greater London.

The historic landmark holds over 1,000 years of heritage, including some of Corps Security’s own past, so it was the perfect reminder that in order to innovate, we must reflect on how far security has come and the impact that our officers have had throughout our 167-year history.

Sharing knowledge

Mike Bullock, CEO at Corps Security, opened with a powerful reminder: “Value isn’t what you know, it’s what you share”. That was the ethos of the entire day, bringing together the installers, security experts, and innovative solutions that will shape the future of our industry.

Paul Lotter, Managing Director at Corps Security, spoke about our social value achievements this year. We became a Living Wage Employer in 2019, and are proud to say that today, over 95 per cent of Corps colleagues earn the Living Wage. We also ranked in the top seven per cent of security companies globally with our EcoVadis Silver status. Innovation is driving change across Corps, but we remain a people-first business and take pride in meeting sustainability goals that protect our people and our planet.

Neil Shanks, Director at Corps Intel, discussed our newly launched intelligence services. Corps Intel offers services from weekly intelligence reports to bespoke threat alerts and dedicated analysts. Intelligence is more than just giving clients a rundown of threats, he explained, it has to answer the “so what?” and deliver actionable guidance.

Innovations in action

RISK was up first to demonstrate its metal detector arches. These are modular and portable structures that are designed to be set up in under five minutes and can detect metal objects down to the size of a pound coin. They have been deployed largely in educational institutions, but also in embassies and at sporting events.

The team put their money where their mouths are and set up a five-minute timer to prove that it could be done – of course, they passed with time to spare.

PPSS Group introduced its lightweight stab vests. Weighing in at 1.5kg, the vests also have a ten-year guarantee – double the lifespan of other Kevlar vests. They are ISO-accredited for knife, spike and blunt force protection with zero penetration. The team put blunt force protection to the test with a baseball bat, which simply bounced off the vest.

Beespace then took the stage to showcase its security sensors. They use LoRaWAN, wide-area networking, to perform checks of areas of 80-90m that save security personnel performing site-wide checks of low-use areas. The sensors also integrate with an AI facilities manager that automates patrol reports and temperature monitoring.

Finally, Security Drone Group demonstrated its fully-automated drones. These can operate 3km from their docking stations, performing perimeter checks and identifying intruders with thermal imaging and AI-powered smart tracking. They can also deliver audio warnings through pre-programmed messages or can connect to monitoring centres where operators can deliver live messages.

Ethical innovation

Mike Reddington, CEO of the British Security Industry Association (BSIA), highlighted its work on ethical facial recognition. When draft bills threatened an outright ban five years ago, the BSIA published the first legal and ethical guide to facial recognition technology in 2021. “How do you open your phone or use passport gates?” Mike asked, arguing that there is already social acceptance but that we need transparent governance.

A panel discussion then explored robotics and emerging tech. Aron Kisdi from Autodiscovery explained how robotics remove people from harm while humans operate remotely with better intel. He explained that tech can provide that first line of defence and inform officers with camera footage and location services. He also spoke about the risk that tech can break or be damaged by intruders. He commented that regulations need to catch up, and affordability remains key for early adopters.

Another line of defence discussed was PanicGuard’s domestic violence response devices. They can trigger police arrival in under eight minutes and are able to gather video evidence for court. This, coupled with Mike Reddington’s insight on facial recognition, showcased a future of advanced solutions designed to protect the general public, as well as private sites.

Comprehensive solutions

Comprehensive site security means addressing the details people often overlook, like secure storage for spare keys, or protecting mail deliveries. Failing to address the basics alongside innovation threatens the safety of your site.

Loxal Security Ltd. presented its secure lock solutions, which are backed by a 15-minute attack test. They can generate daily 7-digit codes and come in various sizes to hold dozens of keys. Parcel Tracker showcased its mail management software that helps organisations track, log and securely hand over deliveries. Radiocoms Systems Ltd. demonstrated cellular network devices that integrate with fire alarms and CCTV.

There were other advanced solutions showcased such as AiLert, software that detects weapons via cameras and connects to monitoring systems, and Aura UK’s keyholder services that use algorithms to identify and communicate with the officer closest to a reported incident in just six seconds.

Having a well-protected and connected team is key to ensuring the safety of not only the site, but the officers operating in it as well.

Innovation in the future

Security innovation means more than staying steps ahead of advanced threats. Industry experts must consider where technology can be best integrated with current roles, and which areas need new capabilities to adapt to the increasingly complex threat landscape.

A key theme throughout the day was that no matter how sophisticated technology is, human decisions will always remain central to driving change in the industry. Our monitoring centre is aided by innovative technology, but it is our operatives who answered 14,000 calls and handled 242,000 alarms in January alone.

By sharing knowledge, our industry benefits from the joint expertise of leaders and innovators. We must remain agile and aware to protect our partner sites and the general public. It was a pleasure to host our Innovation Day at The National Archives, and we are proud of our industry’s spirit of collaboration.

Corps Security Wins Double At 2025 Security And Fire Excellence Awards

Corps Security celebrated a double win at the 2025 Security and Fire Excellence Awards, held on Monday, 1 December at the JW Marriott Grosvenor House in London. The social enterprise was recognised in two categories: Inspiration in HR, and Security or Fire ESG Initiative of the Year. In both categories, Corps was praised for its people-focused strategy that directly supports business success and profitability.

Corps Security Wins Double At 2025 Security And Fire Excellence Awards

The Inspiration in HR award praised key initiatives, including the management development programme, the £45,000 investment in its internal colleague portal, along with a further £20,000 in colleague reward and recognition, and the online Talos 360 recruitment platform. The organisation’s 5.11% attrition rate was praised for being well below the industry average, along with 59% of colleagues having over five years’ service. The judges noted how the team’s use of technology and data-driven approach has a measurable impact, with 70% of colleagues strongly agreeing that HR keeps them informed and involved.

The ESG Initiative of the Year award recognised Corps Security’s comprehensive approach to environmental, social and governance priorities, underpinned by its people, planet and purpose values. Judges commended the organisation’s ambitious net zero targets and meaningful social impact. Achievements celebrated include a 7.15% reduction in carbon emissions, with 36% of its vehicle fleet now electric or hybrid, Neutral Carbon Zone gold certification and EcoVadis silver accreditation. The judges also recognised Corps’ commitment to the Real Living Wage, with 98.8% of colleagues now paid at or above this level, and its partnerships with veteran charities, including a £100,000 donation to Combat Stress in the last financial year.

Paul Lotter, Managing Director of Corps Security, said: “We’re absolutely thrilled to receive these two awards, which recognise the hard work and dedication of our teams across the business. Our HR colleagues, led by HR Director Magda Jablonska El-Aasar, work tirelessly to create an environment where people feel valued and supported. Our commitment to ESG, led by Quality and Compliance Manager Sharon McLaren, also reflects our purpose as a social enterprise: to support the communities and environment we operate within. These awards demonstrate that we’re doing right by our people and our planet.”

How Corps Security Makes A Difference

As we continue our work in 2025, we reflect on our previous initiatives, achievements, and our commitment to social value. Last year was a year where teamwork, a drive for excellence, and dedication to our members and the local community continued to be a pivotal part of our journey. A huge thank you to all our staff whose hard work made this happen.

Momentous occasions

Last year, the security industry widely recognised Corps Security’s efforts. Two of our colleagues were honoured by the Security Industry Authority. Our dedication to inclusion and equity also led to us becoming finalists for the Security Institute’s EDI Initiative of the Year.

Other significant accolades included Mike Bluestone’s Lifetime Achievement Award at the Fire and Security Matters Awards and Andrea Strong’s win in the Women in Security Technical Awards category. It’s a delight to work with colleagues at the forefront of the security industry.

We were thrilled to win the Bronze Employer of the Year Award at the English Veteran Awards.

We also proudly sponsored the 2024 Services Awards in Sunderland, celebrating the best in service personnel in armed and emergency services. Hosting the “Most Outstanding Royal Air Force Award” was an honour.

His Majesty King Charles III was confirmed as Corps Security’s Royal Patron in May, continuing a prestigious tradition dating back to 1901. Announced on the first anniversary of his coronation, the Monarch’s patronage was confirmed following a comprehensive review of all Royal Patronages. This appointment honours the treasured connection between the Royal Family and Corps Security.

Keeping our finger on the pulse

We’ve recently launched Corps Protect, our personalised protection services. While the 2018 British Crime Survey states 150 UK lone workers face physical or verbal attacks every day, we’re there to ensure that lone workers are safe and can work effectively.

Corps Protect offers several devices to ensure personal safety, including smart watches and body-worn videos. These are underpinned by a dedicated technical support, comprehensive reporting, and a rapid 24/7 response.

Fundraising milestones and community engagement

At Corps Security, supporting veterans is not just a part of our legacy—it’s our mission. We’ve demonstrated our commitment through fundraising, events, and strategic partnerships. In September, Corps employees embarked on the Coast-to-Coast Challenge, raising crucial funds for Combat Stress, a charity supporting veterans’ mental health. Together, they walked from Bowness-on-Solway to Whitley Bay, covering a staggering 92.5 miles.

Our national accounts team also walked from Eastbourne to Brighton as part of March to March, while others competed in the London Landmarks Half Marathon in April.

Our team raised over £1,500 for the Royal British Legion through poppy sales and hosted events like the Corps Security Charity Football Tournament, which raised funds for Combat Stress. Every donation counts, and Corps doubled the tournament’s total, underscoring our commitment to veterans’ causes.

Further afield, Corps took part in the SSAFA 13 Bridges Challenge and laid wreaths at Juno Beach in honour of D-Day veterans. These initiatives resonate deeply with our mission to honour and support those who served.

Financial contributions are not the only way that we show our commitment to making the security industry, and our community, a better place. We’re proud to continually show support to Figen Murray’s mission to instate Martyn’s Law, as we have done since 2018. Working together to make the security industry a better place and delivering greater safety to the people and assets that we look after.

How does Corps Security advance social value and sustainability?

We partnered with Treekly to support reforestation efforts and maintained our EcoVadis silver sustainability score. These actions show our commitment to a greener and more inclusive future.

In October, Managing Director Paul Lotter participated in the NFU Mutual Suppliers Summit, discussing how Corps integrates social impact and sustainability into its operations. This conversation was led with our forward-thinking approach to delivering security value.

How will Corps Security shape the future in 2025 and beyond?

As we move forwards into 2025, Corps Security remains committed to setting new benchmarks in innovation. The security industry continues to move and shift, with technology being a large part of the future. Whilst businesses have access to technology in all shapes and sizes, they shouldn’t be fooled with shiny gadgets. They need to be vigilant about what products they select ensuring they are fit for purpose and offer the right benefits.

As we look to 2025, Corps Security remains committed to setting new benchmarks in innovation in security, while continuing our legacy to look after our colleagues and community.

Here’s to another year of making a difference together!

Corps Security Launches Mental Health Commitments And Encourage Others To Join

At an invite only event on Thursday, 18th May 2023, Corps Security encouraged the security and FM industries to come together and help to break the stigma around mental health.

Security officers have a difficult and sometimes physically impactful job, and a 2020 study by key speaker, Professor Mark Button, found that poor mental health is prevalent, with 40% of officers showing signs of PTSD.

The event was an opportunity for the security industry to come together to understand mental health and start to make changes in support of the tens of thousands of security personnel across the country.

After an introduction from Corps’ managing director, Paul Lotter, the audience were educated on how to identify poor mental health in individuals, and how this may manifest in our teams. Christie Alkin, Lead Research Occupational Therapist at Combat Stress delivered some real insight in this area.

Professor Mark Button followed, with more details on his research into the industry, in its first public presentation since its release in April 2020.

The next speaker, Mike Hurst is the director of SecurityMindsMatter. For those unaware, this voluntary group have mental health in the security industry at their core, making Mike’s speech the most important when reaching out to the wider security industry.

Following a video of security personnel discussing their mental health, it was time to commit to improvement in the industry.

Corps Security pledges to FOUR key commitments

Chris Middleton, Director of Major Accounts at Corps Security and member of SecurityMindsMatter took to the stage to discuss what the immediate future would look like.

The event was the opportunity for the security industry to come together and commit to improving mental health in the sector and break the stigma around it. Corps therefore made the decision to ‘get the ball rolling’ by making some essential commitments, announced on the day. So, what are they, and how can other security companies get involved?

Commitments

  1. OFFICER SIGNPOSTING CARDS

SecurityMindsMatter have created signposting cards for all officers, with QR codes and resources for officers and colleagues to access online support around their mental health. Corps Security have printed 5,000 for its officers. Other companies can do the same, with their own logos, by contacting Mike Hurst directly. Will you commit to this?

  1. OPEN DAYS AT CORPS SECURITY’S LONDON OFFICE

Corps have agreed to two open days at its facilities in Farringdon, London – where mental health training will be provided to senior personnel and managers across the security sector. If you would like members of your team to join these sessions, contact details are below.

  1. MENTAL HEALTH CONTINUUM

A mental health continuum has been created, off the back of the great work done by the Ambulance Service. The continuum allows individuals, or managers, to identify where a person sits on the mental health spectrum and provide guidance and signposting support for anyone in need. Get yourself a copy on the contact details below.

  1. SECURITY MENTAL WELLNESS COVENANT

To encourage long-term commitment to the cause, it has been proposed and is widely supported that security companies sign up to a Mental Wellness Covenant specifically for the security industry. SecurityMindsMatter has someone with experience prepared to develop it, but the team are keen to ensure every security business in the UK can be involved in its conception.

These commitments are already agreed by Corps at Board level. The team are now looking to the wider industry to engage and get involved.

Watch the event:

You can view the entire event, as recorded live on the Corps Security LinkedIn page or on the Corps Security YouTube channel.

How to get involved:

If you would like to discuss the signposting cards, have new ideas, would like to receive the current continuum or are keen to be involved in the development of the covenant, please contact:

Corps To Work With Canary Wharf Security

Canary Wharf Group has appointed Corps Security to deliver security services across its retail portfolio. Under the three-plus-two-year contract, more than 80 officers will deliver corporate and retail security services.

Canary Wharf takes its name from the quay where fruit and veg from the Mediterranean and Canary islands was once unloaded. The disused Docklands site, formed by a loop in the Thames, was turned into a second financial district to rival the City of London in the late 1980s and 1990s. Today around 120,000 people work on the Canary Wharf Estate across 18 million sq ft of office, retail and leisure space, including more than 300 shops, cafés, bars, restaurants, fitness facilities and other amenities. There are 20 acres of outdoor space and over 70 pieces of public art.

The contract, which starts on 1 March, was won following a competitive tender, with Corps’ social enterprise status being seen as critical to its success.

Paul Lotter, managing director at Corps Security, commented: “We are thrilled to be working at such a prestigious site as Canary Wharf and look forward to creating a long-term and successful partnership.”

Five Minutes With Seetan Varsani And Paul Lotter

With Corps’ equality, diversity and inclusion initiative Corps Together being formally launched this month, we sat down with Seetan Varsani, who leads the campaign, and Paul Lotter, Corps’ MD, to talk through the inspiration behind it.

Corps Together aims to improve equality, diversity and inclusion engagement across the organisation. What inspired you to launch the campaign?

Seetan: Despite having a diverse workforce in all forms of the word, there was previously little in the way of active equality, diversity and inclusion engagement within our teams of more than 3,000 people. During the worldwide #MeToo and Black Lives Matters movements, we knew this had to change. The idea for Corps Together was born.

Paul: We’re a social enterprise which means our people and our communities are at the heart of everything that we do. But we weren’t celebrating the amazing diversity of our people. To ensure we can recruit and retain the best talent, and therefore deliver the highest standards of service to our customers, we have to ensure everyone feels respected and included. Corps Together supports that.

The campaign includes so many elements: an ED&I charter, a review of all Corps policies, procedures and recruitment processes to ensure ED&I best practice, the Corps Together website, the video, a quarterly magazine, a dedicated helpline/ email line, panel support for ED&I grievances, annual mandatory E&DI training for everyone, celebratory events for key faith festivals and other events. What do you think is the most important?

Seetan: For me it’s the annual mandatory E&DI training for everyone in the business. Many people don’t understand why inclusion is important because they’ve always felt included perhaps because they don’t identify with any of the six protected characteristics: age, sex, religion, disability, gender and race. The training helps them to see inclusion from a different perspective and then look at ways they can be more inclusive and contribute to developing our culture.

Paul: Training is very important but it was also very important for us as a business to review all our policies and procedures to ensure that everything we did was with equality and diversity in mind.

Corps Together is a fantastic idea but how will you know if it’s made an impact?

Paul: It’s really important that we measure the success of what we do. Corps Together is a considerable investment for us as a business and it has to make good business sense. Our annual Your Voice Matters colleague survey in summer 2021 demonstrated a growing understanding of ED&I issues thanks to the initiative. More than 60 percent of people are aware of Corps Together, just over 40 percent are aware of their guardian team members, almost 70 percent feel Corps proactively promotes equality diversity and inclusion and a similar number feel they can approach Corps if they have an issue relating to equality, diversity and inclusion. There’s clear room for improvement but it’s a brilliant start.

Seetan: In December 2020, the Corps Together team conducted an ED&I survey of all colleagues to better understand the impact of the first few months of the programme: what worked, what needed improvement and to see what further ideas people had. We then changed the programme accordingly. We’re constantly listening to our people and adjusting the initiative accordingly.

So you’ve achieved an enormous amount over the past year, what’s next for Corps Together?

Seetan: The guardians are planning an annual ED&I awards scheme and we want to use the official launch to get more engagement from site-based colleagues particularly. We want people to feel not just included but a sense of belonging to Corps.

Paul: At a business level, we’re exploring the adoption of ISO 30415 – the new business quality standard in ED&I – with the aim to achieve this in 2022. That will really demonstrate to our people that we’re taking this seriously.

Finally, Corps Together is a great name, really summing up what it’s all about. How did you come up with it?

Seetan: We needed something which was catchy and instantly understandable. One of the volunteer guardians, who represent the six protected characteristics, said the initiative was all about bringing us all together. And we suddenly thought that together aptly described our aim. We want to nurture and build on understanding across our workforce, give everyone a voice and ensure that every one of our colleagues is 100% comfortable being themselves.

Corps Security Provides Laptops For Home Schooling

As parents up and down the country are faced with the struggle of home schooling, Corps Security lends a helping hand by providing laptops for colleagues that lack this essential technology as learning online prevails.

Corps has cleansed and reconfigured all spare laptops as well as adding Microsoft Office 365 so children and parents have all the programmes required for home learning. We have looked at where managers’ laptops were due to be upgraded this year and expedited the process so even more resource is available to support the education of the next generation.

Corps has sent out a series of internal communications notifying the whole of the workforce that help is at hand.

Paul Lotter, Managing Director of Corps Security said: “Lockdown number three and school closure for the second time is certainly a challenge for many. We wanted to offer our support to make this period of home schooling not only easier, but possible in cases where there is no means of facilitating remote learning. We’ve had a fantastic uptake so far and this has spurred us on to make even more resource available.”

As a company committed to colleague wellbeing, Corps will do all it can to extend its support where it is needed most. We’re in this together.
